HOSI School Workshops The school workshops by HOSI Linz are a flagship of the organization and very important in understanding democracy for our society. Richard Steinmetz and Christoph Pichler, who both conduct school workshops at different schools, give us answers about why these are significant, what they discuss with the youth during the workshops, and how prejudices can be broken down. Press Conference on Beaver Dam Analogs in the Old Town Hall Linz experienced a pronounced drought period this year. The precipitation deficit combined with high temperatures led to the drying out of water systems in and around Linz in many areas. The severe drought is reflected in low water levels, high water temperatures, and the dried-up sections of the Urfahraner streams, along with the declining habitats of the animal and plant species native to the area. In cooperation with the city’s specialized departments, the Beaver Lab is deploying so-called Beaver Dam Analogs to protect the water systems of the Haselbach and the Urfahraner collection channel from drying out. A total of 21 beaver dam imitations help to retain water and keep it longer in the water system. At the press conference on September 14th in the Old Town Hall, Environment City Councilor Eva Schobesberger and Finance Councilor Thomas Gegenhuber, together with Franziska Thurner and Fabian Holzinger from the Beaver Lab, provided an overview of the project.
