S02E10: Citizens' attitudes towards the EU

In the 10th episode of the second series of the SveEUkratko podcast, we discuss how the citizens of Serbia today view the European Union and what shapes their attitudes. We talk about how the perception of the EU has changed over the past two decades – from broad support after political changes in 2000 to today's ambivalence, skepticism, and declining trust. We analyze the impact of the slow and often non-transparent accession process, changes within the EU itself, as well as domestic political rhetoric and the media environment. We especially focus on the spread of myths and disinformation about the EU, the role of propaganda, and the situation among young people, who are simultaneously the most exposed to digital narratives and key to the future relationship with Europe. We also discuss the concept of stabilocracy and the reasons why many pro-European oriented citizens are disappointed with the EU's behavior towards Serbia. We ask ourselves – can trust be restored, and under what conditions can Serbia's European path once again gain majority support?
