The Godmother: the correspondent who "marched" at the rear of the war

Over the course of 15 years, letter exchanges were part of a very clear strategy: to legitimize the war. Better known as godmothers, they supported an unofficial program that originated from a concept adopted by the Estado Novo: women integrating into the national effort by corresponding with soldiers on the front lines.
