Dr. Stefan Schiffer:

Graduated in 1979 from the HAK Bad Ischl.

After completing his military service, he immediately began studying computer science/ business informatics and law.

He worked for three years at Siemens in Munich in the research department, then Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Gustav Pomberger, a Gosau native, brought him to Johannes Kepler University in Linz. Pomberger was a professor of Practical Informatics and headed the Institute for Business Informatics -- Software Engineering.

As a management consultant, Dr. Schiffer develops data protection concepts and accompanies large companies and public law institutions in transforming from analog to digital business processes.

Examples include the redesign of the course management system at WIFI OÖ or the property management system of the Non-profit Housing Association in Linz.

As a member of the Institute for Business Informatics, Dr. Schiffer can incorporate his experiences both professionally and vice versa into the university.

He prefers to give students tips rather than advice, since advice can be taken as a blow:

always stay active
recognize and seize opportunities
find a topic you are passionate about -- and excel in it beyond the average, without overburdening the staff

His theses on the "new" school (secondary level 2): Education, training, and common sense are needed; AI should be used for problem-solving, subjects should be dissolved, reduced to interdisciplinary teaching, e.g., subjects on the meta-level, to train analytical skills. These new subjects could be called "Analysis" and "Philosophy." It is important to think logically, understand and write about problems and texts. This also includes mastering language.

The shift in teaching also affects the university -- no more homework is assigned, as they are written by or with CHAT-GPT. This causes stress on both sides. However, understanding will be tested through joint discussions.
