The Organic Formand is nominated for the EU Organic Award.

The EU Organic Award is awarded annually to both a male and a female farmer who have developed an outstanding, innovative, sustainable, and inspiring project with a real added value for the production and consumption of organic products.

According to a press release from Agriculture & Food, Hans Erik Jørgensen, who is the chairman of the organization's organic section, is this year among the contenders for the award.

The award ceremony is organized by the European Commission and among others by Copa Cogeca and IFOAM, while the European Parliament and the Council are part of the jury that will select the final winners on EU Organic Day, September 23.

Hans Erik Jørgensen and Risbjerg Organic in Funen have been selected as one of the three finalists in the category Best Organic Farmer. The organic representative is pleased with the finalist position:

"I am incredibly happy and proud of the recognition, not just to be considered for an award, but also to end up among the finalists. It’s a pat on the back that others also see value in our efforts for high animal welfare, our focus on soil health, diverse crop rotation, and all the other things we try to do diligently every day. It’s great that there are people down in Brussels who look at our farm and think what we do is good," says the organic farmer from Funen.

He runs Risbjerg Farm, which is a diverse organic farm with 6-7 employees. The farm manages approximately 350 hectares with a diverse crop production, 250 organic outdoor pigs, and an annual production of about 6,000 slaughter pigs, some of which are raised in a system where the pigs are on grass their entire lives. The farm also has cattle in nature conservation and hens that produce so-called grass eggs.
