This edition of #Stimmlagen, the info magazine of the free radios in Austria, comes from the VON UNTEN editorial team at Radio Helsinki in Graz and is dedicated today to the Film Days Hunger.Macht.Profite. and the nationwide raids against the LGBTIQ+ community in Turkey.

Hunger.Macht.Profite. – Film Days on the Right to Food
This year, the film days on the right to food – Hunger.Macht.Profite. – are taking place for the 15th time. Since the first edition in 2006, the series has been showing critical documentary films about our global agricultural and food system on cinema screens, organized by FIAN Austria. We spoke with Julia Kocher from FIAN – about the core concern of the film days and what has changed since the first edition, about the selection of the four films shown this year and what connects them content-wise, as well as about the film discussions after the screenings, where speakers engage with the audience to discuss options for action.

Raids against the queer community in Turkey
Queer people in Turkey are currently under massive pressure: During a raid in 15 provinces, nearly 50 people have been arrested so far – but around 160 people are wanted. The charges are allegedly "obscenity" and "prostitution." At the same time, websites and social media accounts of LGBTIQ+ organizations are being blocked.
We spoke with Ipek Yüksek. She is organized with Lila Solidarität – in Turkish Mor Dayanışma – and was herself part of the queer-feminist community in Turkey before moving to Graz. In the interview, she tells us how she experienced repression, surveillance, and criminalization against LGBTIQ+ people in Turkey before leaving the country, and what has specifically changed in recent years – from Pride bans to increasing surveillance and criminalization. She also shares what she knows about the current wave of repression and how she learned about it, how the legal framework behind the charges is to be understood, and what the blocking of websites and accounts means for the affected organizations and activists on the ground. She still has direct contact with people affected by the raids and reports on how they are doing.
Finally, we discuss what international solidarity is needed now, what the queer community here in Austria can concretely do – and what Ipek Yüksek wishes from politics and the public in Austria regarding the situation in Turkey.
