Local Heroes – Radio Portrait of Norbert Steiner

The planner of the St. Pölten government district talks about his childhood, growing up in Innsbruck, and his early budding love for building. He recalls the exciting years of study in Vienna, where he was part of the student movement of change. He describes the formative years in Munich that shaped him as an urban planner. He tells how Governor Siegfried Ludwig commissioned him to build "a beautiful capital." The capital manager also publicly shares less known details of the planning phase. He vividly recounts the other major construction projects in Austria that he also led: the railway offensive of the ÖBB and the "rescue operation" for the new Skylink at Vienna Airport. And he explains why, at the age of 70, he took over the management of the Alpenland Housing Cooperative.

Creator of the program: Radio producer Karl Vogd, born in 1954, taught German and history at BG and BRG St. Pölten, Josefstraße until his retirement. Freelance work as a journalist.
