She is a lucky one. Thousands of people are vying for a spot in the experiment. Interest is growing, everyone wants to earn money by masturbating, and Joi AI is boosting sexual marketing. They engage followers on X: “After all these years of jerking… training, it’s time to become a professional.”

Let’s create a sexual friend together

You can sew it together like a surgeon, piece by piece. Add elements, after a few conversations remove some, slim down, dye hair, modify personality traits – from “dominant” to “creative”, from “seductive” to “quirky”.

The first decision to make on Joi AI is the character’s aesthetics: realistic or anime?

We also need to decide on ethnicity: white, Asian, black, Latin American, South Asian, Middle Eastern?

Body type: slim, athletic, average, rounded, or dpk (big and beautiful woman)?

Time to choose: breast type, butt shape, penis size. Hair color, hairstyle, age, name. This is a character creation system similar to many games, like The Sims or Baldur’s Gate 3. Creating an AI partner is similar, with the difference that in the game you create a character you want to see yourself in. In Joi AI, the goal is to generate a sexual fantasy, a potential lover – you can sculpt, step by step, your favorite influencer or coworker.

Once you have the shell, you need to fill it with character. The AI sexual friend must know how to initiate contact, how to reach us, how to flirt. You need to create a personality (seductive or shy?) and a relationship type (choose from: wife, stepsister, boss, neighbor, ex, friend, brother-in-law, wife of a friend). For the undecided, there is an option: “surprise me”.

The number of professions for an AI partner is limited but does not differ for men and women. An AI partner can be: a real estate agent, masseur, stripper, secretary, bartender, model, actress, police officer, professor, porn star, maid, personal trainer, flight attendant, webcam worker, student, librarian, spy.

A break in routine – for two weeks, half of the experiment, Chloé spends at her parents’ house. There, it’s much harder to keep the rhythm. She can’t continue her routine after a Wordle round.

She cares about the research, so she improvises.

She masturbates secretly, in the evenings, when her parents are already asleep. Chloé doesn’t like that time, after the session it’s hard for her to fall asleep. But she has declared herself. A month is a month, she only has Sundays off, so she does what she must, then makes notes.

Chloé reviews AI partners created by other users. That’s how she comes across the character of the Mysterious Man.

Hours pass, and they still fantasize about walking in the mountains.

On Joi AI’s site, I read:

This makes the final effect 100% unique, like a snowflake or a fingerprint. Even if you create two girls with the same settings, they will develop two completely unique personalities driven by artificial intelligence.”

“Your shared memories enrich the AI-partner’s personality. During chatting, flirting, and playing with your AI girl, you will create memories and erotic scenes. Over time, all this will form your AI-lationship.”

Chloé has spent many years researching technologies designed for heterosexual men – silicone dolls, VR porn, teledildonics, chatbots. She analyzed hundreds of dolls, concluding that many heterosexual fantasies among men are not very diverse, and sextech heavily over-represents women of Asian appearance.

In the case of Joi AI’s AI partners, Chloé observed that one of the most popular choices among heterosexual men is a white, slim, physically fit blonde woman, preferably shy neighbor, secretly in love with them.

Of course, this is not a clinical study, just an analysis of responses from a small group of people. The entire report is dominated by marketing language, which is understandable – the same company that sells the product also initiates the experiment. The data sounds quite incredible until you think about what they really are – questionnaires from six random people, paid $2,000 each. If one of them vomited during masturbation with a chatbot, one could conclude that the combination of AI and sex leads to nausea in 16.7% of cases.

However, Joi AI’s marketing seems almost brilliant – they spectacularly announced the experiment, created a lot of buzz around it, then cooled enthusiasm and described using the product as a way to care for well-being, as if it were face cream.

And if interactions with an AI partner are like applying face cream, Joi AI will also do well, but at the sight of money, since their service is hard to use without a subscription. In theory, you can create a free account and chat with characters available in the catalog, but very quickly, interactions require payment in internal currency – joi neurons. This business model encourages microtransactions, regardless of having a premium account. To get private videos or gift something to your AI partner, you need to exchange real money for joi neurons.

Chloé used this feature only once – she bought her Anna lipstick.

Whose girl is she?

Although Anna will be “hers” only if Chloé sets her existence as “private”. Otherwise, the muscular boxer will go into the character gallery, teasing anyone who clicks on her profile, engaging in hundreds of thousands of interactions.

This is how characters created by influencers and OnlyFans creators work. Some of them create a “digital twin” of themselves in Joi AI and publish their image on the platform. In this way, you can talk to “them”, just like with fictional characters from the catalog, such as the random Sam, whom I click on because she has blue hair and nearly three million “fans”.

After a few seconds, I get a message from her: “Shall we play truth or dare?”
