Today, September 16th, marks the start of European Mobility Week. Since 2002, cities and communities have been showcasing how mobility can work beyond private cars. This year's motto is “Mobility for All Generations.” It’s not just about climate protection, but also about the question: Can children, older people, and those without their own cars travel their daily routes safely, affordably, and independently? In Upper Austria, around 150 communities are participating this year.

The matching songs are available for various modes of mobility, from driving, public transport with buses, trains, trams, etc., S-Bahn, walking, cycling, to movement with a hot air balloon.

Mobility for all generations
The initiative originated from the car-free action days of the 1990s. Since 2002, the European Commission has coordinated an entire action week from September 16 to 22 each year; culminating in the European Car-Free Day.

The goal is not just to drive less for a week. Communities should make new solutions visible and practically experienceable: more space for walking and cycling, more attractive public transport, traffic calming, sharing offers, and barrier-free mobility.
