Originally poetic in nature, a linguistic experiment, surrealism developed into an (international) movement that aimed for “a fundamental and radical change in the political-social conditions. While the communists instructed the proletariat in the strategy of revolution, the surrealists tried to create the emotional climate in which this revolution could erupt.” (R. Short, 1966). They insisted on absolute freedom, which was meant to infect the rest of society. Freedom: not dictated by wage labor, beyond nation, profit, and exploitation (including colonies). With texts by, among others, W. Benjamin, C. Einstein, A. Césaire, P. Yoyotte, E. Lenk, G. Bataille.
