Danish plant company on course for its first profit after seven years

After seven years as CEO of PerfectSeason, co-founder and CEO Emil Andersen handed over the CEO position last year to co-founder Henrik Have Christensen, who took over with the stated goal of generating the company’s first profit. With two months to go before the end of 2026, the new CEO is confident enough to state that the Copenhagen-based producer of organic, plant-based foods is on track to achieve its first profit. “What we have done, first and foremost, is optimize our costs. We have now turned the red figures into black figures and improved the bottom line by 200 percent compared with our starting point last year. Naturally, we are very pleased about that,” Henrik Have Christensen tells FødevareWatch. PerfectSeason was founded seven years ago, and the company still has its three founders, Henrik Have Christensen, Emil Andersen and Emil William Götze, on board, along with a couple of additional private investors. Since founding Planteslagterne in 2018, they have been driven by an ambition to bring more greens into Danes’ everyday lives in the form of plant-based organic products with minimal processing, clean labels and a flavor profile closer to the plant world than to the animal products they are intended to replace. With a new person at the helm, the company also shifted its focus away from primarily aiming to sell its mushroom mince and ready-made products such as beetroot burgers, falafels and various plant-based patties as alternatives to meat. Experience shows that few consumers choose to give up meat completely, while many are happy to incorporate plant proteins into more dishes.
