Prosfygika – self-managed neighborhood in Athens

Prosfygika is a large autonomous neighborhood and a place that international activists encounter at some point. But since its founding, this squatted neighborhood has been under attack. Regardless of which party is in power in Athens and Greece. In September 2024, Prosfygika published a call for solidarity. On the occasion of the call, and because of Prosfygika’s invitation to activists to come by at the end of the year for an international meeting, Radio Corax spoke to two activists from Prosfygika.

Regulation of autonomous weapons systems

The use of autonomous weapons systems is a highly controversial topic. These are weapons that can act without human intervention. The systems can pose potentially uncontrollable risks to civilians and warring parties. International humanitarian law lays down clear rules of conduct at international level in the event of war. It defines which weapons may be used under which conditions. These regulations are crucial to ensure that the principles of international law are adhered to. Article 36 in particular is of central importance. It stipulates that certain test procedures must be developed for new weapons to ensure their conformity with international law. This means that autonomous weapons systems must not cause unnecessary injury or suffering. Currently, autonomous weapons are classified as classic weapons of war under Article 36. Political scientist and lawyer Oscar Prust and Marius Pletsch from the campaign „Stop Killer Robots“ take a closer look at current challenges and options for regulating autonomous weapons systems.
