Alma Madmarked is opening a store at "Irma-torvet" in Birkerød
Økologisk NuLast week, Alma Madmarked A/S published an annual report showing a loss of 14.5 million DKK, but according to Alma founder and co-owner Alfred Josefsen, this was an expected deficit, which by no means indicates that the chain is slowing down in opening new stores. Today, he instead reports that the chain has taken over store premises that previously housed a Fakta store and most recently hosted Kop & Kande in Birkerød. The upcoming store is located at Teglporten 3 near Hovedgaden in Birkerød. The unofficial address is still "Irma-torvet," as there used to be an Irma store on the other side of the street. This might call for a quick name change. "We are really looking forward to opening the store and offering Alma's concept of good, healthy, and organic foods to the residents and customers of Birkerød," writes Alfred Josefsen in a news email from the young chain, which currently boasts an organic percentage of nearly 80% in the produce department, according to Alfred Josefsen. He sees Birkerød as an attractive place with many consumers who share Alma's vision of eating proper food. "And we believe that Alma can help make Birkerød and Hovedgaden an even more attractive shopping destination," says the director, who is pleased that the chain will have its first store on "Hillerød-strengen." "We hope that many customers from Allerød, Farum, Holte, Værløse, Hillerød, Virum, Søllerød, and Lyngby will also use Alma in North Zealand." With a signed agreement for a store in Birkerød, the two existing Alma stores in Frederiksberg and Copenhagen K will be complemented by stores in Birkerød, Rungsted, Amager, and Carlsberg Byen in 2026/2027. "We are heading into a busy time, but fortunately, we have plenty of courage for the new projects," concludes the news email.
