Spain dealing with drought

Report by Stef and Camilo, Metropolis correspondents in Spain, edit by Jet van Fessem

Andalusia, in the south of Spain, is one of the warmest areas of Europe. Last summer there was a big drought. Temperatures rose above 46 degrees Celsius and the usual September and October rains didn’t materialize. Swamps, lakes and freshwater reservoirs dried out. What was still in the freshwater reservoirs was declared undrinkable. A group of 80.000 Andalusians depended on trucks with tanks to deliver fresh water. Our correspondent in Spain filmed a protest of the worried civilians, hammering white crosses into the soil of the dried out reservoir.
